Energy from waste has seen significant growth potential in recent years as the demand for renewable sources of energy remains high on the agenda of government policies and legislation. With growing goverment support and demand for renewable and sustainable energy supplies for the future, demand is greater than ever and the potential in this industry sector continues to encourage an evolution of new processing methods and technologies to leverage the industries opportunities and current project developments. This brings us to SMi’s 5th Energy from Waste Conference where keynote speakers will be discussing the latest technologies, challenges and developments in this fast paced industry sector. The conference will focus on commercial opportunities that continue to exist and emerge from energy from waste and the regulatory and political frameworks which govern and encourage the industry sector’s development. The aim of the conference is to provide attendees with the opportunity to hear from experts from all aspects of the industry and discuss most important issues in this field through a mix of case studies and presentations. The conference gives speakers the platform to focus on the current developments, technologies, strategies and challenges facing the industry sector into the future. This is a growth market sector with significant opportunities for development as private companies, organisations and government officials are working to develop more efficient and sustainable energy solutions for companies and cities. It seeks to help delegates from the private and public sector to better understand and assess the current role and future commercial, economic as well as technical potential of energy from waste.

SMi is proud to announce its Military Flight Training symposium to be held in London on Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th September 2012. A strong addition to the defence portfolio, this event will build on the success of SMi’s Joint Forces Simulation and Training and Air Mission Planning events to provide an innovative and unique forum for discussion and analysis of Military Flight Training. This event boasts a strong and well balanced speaker line up drawn from around the world delivering practical insight and experience of flight training techniques and procedures. This year’s programme will cover sessions on; Human Factors – Performance and Limitations, Tactical Training and Mission Planning, Weapons Training, Nightvision Training, Simulation and Simulators, Jet & Fighter Training, Helicopter Training, instructor Training, Formation Flying and Formation Command. These topics and sessions are designed to provide a thorough and focused overview of the Military Flight Training field and to provoke discussion, debate and analysis during the question and answer sessions following each presentation. Tom Hammick will demonstrate the printing of an edition variable woodcut, which will be made in an edition of 20 exclusive copies. All proceeds from the sales of these prints will go towards a Student Printmaking Bursary Fund at the University of Brighton, where Hammick is a part-time Senior Lecturer in Painting and Printmaking.

SMi's Air Mission Planning is focussed on the strategic, tactical and operational air mission planning issues facing militaries today. In its second year, the conference will provide delegates with the opportunity to learn from those who have successfully implemented strong air mission planning strategies and discuss the mission planning challenges faced today. We will focus on interoperability between military branches and air forces, who often utilise vastly different air assets and planning systems. We will also be looking at the flow of aeronautical data throughout the command structure, the role of integrated airborne - land based command and control systems and the integration of varied air assets, including UAV's and helicopters into theatre / tactical environments. There will also be a number of sessions focussing on interbranch joint air planning, as well as updates from NATO as to the progress of the Integrated Air Command and Control System (ACCS). Attendance at SMi's Air Mission Planning 2012 will allow attendees to hear from and network with senior speakers from the 233F, Italian Air Force, the 14n Defence Force, Royal Air Force, Thales, as well as a number of NATO agencies and other key players in military air planning.

Pain affects all of us some of the time, and many of us all the time. Yet, the pharmacologic treatments available to alleviate pain have changed little in the last 50 years. Those who suffer from acute pain originating in the peripheral nervous system have the best chances of finding relief, while others suffering chronic neuropathic pain must often settle for partial or even minimal relief. In addition the current models and theories of pain and its mechanisms have failed to yeild significantly new therapeutics over recent years. Now in its 12th year, SMi's annual Pain Therapeutic conference series has gone from strength to strength; join our faculty of top-level speakers and address the current issues facing the clinical R&D field of pain drug development.

Recognises a service launched by an operator or service provider in 2009, and delivered fully or in part over an IP network, which made a significant contribution to service revenues and customer satisfaction. A service or product could be a complete IPTV launch or it could be a new service as part of an existing IP TV offer, such as the introduction of HDTV or DVR for example.
