The historic boutique Hotel Cromwell in Stevenage has a unique history and is definitely worth a visit. The refurbished grand fireplace from 1667 adds to the comfortable seating area. The wooden panels throughout the hotel give a period feel. It was owned by a French family in the 1920s and 1930s and became well established. During the Second World War, it served as a billet for Canadian pilots, and renowned conductor Sir Henry Wood frequented the hotel before his death in Hitchin in 1944. The hotel was also featured in a 1963 episode of the TV series The Saint, with lead actor Roger Moore as a guest. Don't miss the peaceful outdoor area with a gazebo, perfect for scenic pictures.
