Napier, located in the south of the Hawkes Bay, is known as the Art Deco City with a comprehensive collection of inner-city art deco buildings. The Festival celebrates the reconstruction of Napier City after a devastating earthquake. Ahuriri, one of the oldest settlements in Napier, was the original Maritime community. The Napier Earthquake disrupted the historical Napier community, but from the walkway, you can see the before and after effects of the earthquake, the architecture, the rebuilding of the port community, and the spirit of Napier's Art Deco.
