CII & DICCI are working together to build capacities of SC-ST entrepreneurs, empower and unleash their inherent talents, and also help tear down systemic barriers that confront them as they start and scale up their businesses, by opening Diversity Cells in select IIMs across the country. In Indian context caste also becomes a major part of the Diversity pool and the session aims to discuss what companies are doing to address the issue. Supplier diversity measures are largely about embracing disadvantaged business enterprises into company supply chains. When a government department or company is the buyer or contracting agency, it is characterised as preferential public procurement. Some socially conscious major private sector companies in India have played a role in addressing social injustice through supplier diversity programs that promote an inclusive approach. The Indian companies may not be doing it as positive discrimination but select vendors based on the quality of product only. Aside from these moral and ethical arguments, there are sound commercial reasons for creating supplier diversity programs.
