This webinar is an exploration of the relationship between sports and mental health in both the general population and in elite athletes. The speakers will highlight the recent publication of “Case Studies in Sports Psychiatry”, the first ever sports psychiatry book to have been co-authored by psychiatrists, sport physicians and athletes, as well as addressing important topics surrounding the role of a psychiatrist within sports, and giving practical insights into working with GB athletes experiencing mental illness. Both invited speakers are senior members of the RCPsych Sport & Exercise Psychiatry Special Interest Group (SEPSIG), a nationwide group of over 1000 Psychiatrists interested in elite sport mental health and exercise promotion within severe mental illness. An interactive Q&A session will be held after the interview. Sports Psychiatrist, Chair, Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Sport and Exercise Psychiatry Special Interest Group and Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Medicine, Queen Mary University London. His published research is related to exercise, exercise addiction, eating disorders, athlete mental health and well-being within the sport, leisure and fitness industry. Amit is an ex-county rugby union player and represented Team GB at the International Rugby Tag Federation World Cup.

This webinar will offer new lessons learned and insights arising out of 20 mental health projects currently in design, under construction, or recently occupied encompassing over 5,000 beds in 14 states in every part of the United Sates. This diversity of current experience has given rise to important lessons about project budgets, construction costs, clinical practice, patient safety, and the impact of a pandemic on hospitals and practice. Francis Pitts will share an overview of what he and his colleagues have been learning about the changing face of mental health facility planning and design during the last two years. Francis Murdock Pitts is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading planners and designers of psychiatric facilities and as a leader in the development of an evidence-based design practice culture in North America. In recognition of his contributions to healthcare design and in particular for his work for the mentally ill, Frank was honored by The Center for Health Design with their 2018 Changemaker.
